Dr. Pittaway is the Copeland Professor of Entrepreneurship at Ohio University and a historical fiction author. His first book Yamacraw Bluff features the founding of the colony of Georgia in 1733.
Yamacraw Bluff is selling. Following its launch at the end of January, the book reached the number-one spot on Amazon’s new releases for the colonial period.
One fantastic aspect of my recent book publication, Yamacraw Bluff, is that it has given me the chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues from Statesboro, GA, and Georgia Southern University. Two friends recently gave my book a shout-out. Dewayne Grice posted a lovely article on Grice Connect about the thinking underlying my decision to write the book (https://lnkd.in/gpGUJw6t). Meanwhile, Jenny Lynn Anderson shared its publication with BULLOCH COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY and talked about it on her travel blog (https://lnkd.in/efKSFSMN). Her particularly heartwarming comment stood out, “Many young entrepreneurs learned so much from Luke!” I hope my former students feel that this sentiment is genuinely justified.
I am not going to lie; I’m having fun seeing my new historical fiction book, Yamacraw Bluff, hit the bookstores. It has just been listed by Barnes & Noble. Hopefully, it will eventually reach a bookstore’s shelf somewhere in Savannah! In case you’re interested (and haven’t heard yet…), the book follows the story of Tom Ellis as he escapes debtors’ prison and joins the first settlers onboard the Anne to found the City of Savannah. https://lnkd.in/egZPfzte
Officially, I can now call myself an author and an academic. My first historical fiction novel, Yamacraw Bluff, is now available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Yamacraw-Bluff-Luke-Pittaway/dp/1683150988). If you’re interested in entrepreneurship, you might enjoy a founding story from another era. If you live in Georgia, you can learn more about the early moments leading up to the establishment of Savannah. I promise it’s a fun read and provides unique insights into Georgia’s history. For bulk purchases and a discount (optimism permissible), visit the publisher at https://culicidaepress.com/pittaway-yamacraw-bluff/. Thank you, Michael Muecke and Culicidae Press, for supporting my work.
Follow the glorious journey of Yorkshireman Tom Ellis as he escapes London’s debtors’ prison in 1733 and joins the expedition to start a new colony in America. In Yamacraw Bluff, Tom’s adventures take him halfway across the world as he uncovers a plot to undermine the founding of Savannah, Georgia.
Pittaway brings to life the remarkable story of the founding of Savannah in a fresh and compelling way. The tale begins in London in the 1730s. Tom Ellis is trapped in debt and heading for the Fleet, a notorious debtors’ prison. By happenstance, Tom is sucked into a fight, defending a drunken aristocrat, and his life is changed forever. Languishing in prison, he is rescued by Oglethorpe and pulled into a fantastical scheme to start a new colony in America. Tom Ellis travels across the Atlantic with the first founders and fights to protect the colony from a dramatic scheme to undermine it. Yamacraw Bluff is a fully panoramic historical novel capturing the sights, scenes, and experiences of the founders while telling the untold story of loss, internecine conflict, and revenge.
